Katie Ellen Wilkins was born in the USA, grew up on Bunurong land in Victoria, and now lives in Newcastle/Muloobinba. Her practice explores the intersections of material chemistry, environmental systems, and intuitive process. Working primarily with fabric and dye — both natural and fibre-reactive — she creates works that respond to subtle forces like pH, gravity, moisture and time. Katie also an educator and the founder of Studio Tinta, an independent creative studio dedicated to sustainable dye practices and community engagement. In January 2025, her book, Hand Dyed Designs, was published by Hardie Grant. In May 2025, Katie was selected as one of two artists to present a solo exhibition as part of Collect: Focus at The Lock-Up, Newcastle/Muloobinba.
